The Simpsons is an animated show which has a colourful history and a great influence on the present mass culture. The creator of the famous family is an American cartoonist, Matt Groening. It’s amazing but he invented the Simpsons in 15 minutes. Matt Groening named the characters after his own family members. The head of the family is a fat and lazy Homer. He is married to Marge, an ordinary American housewife. They have three children: Bart, a ten-year-old troublemaker; Lisa, an eight-year-old genius girl and Maggie, a cute, silent baby.
The family firstly appeared in The Tracey Ullman Show in a short episode in 1987. In 1989 Fox Channel showed a half-an-hour Christmas episode. Today the cartoon series are very successful. There are a lot of comics, books and even computer games about Simpsons. The Simpsons show is still popular because it makes fun of anything in our present life: movies , music, politics and historical events. What is more important: it makes people around the world laugh.
