I went to medical school in Rome. It's a Catholic university, and this has a few implications. For example, in order to get in, to be admitted, you hand in your baptism certificate, right along with your résumé. In addition, once you're in, you have to pass four theology exams, which are just part of the curriculum. Actually, you can even teach religion in middle school after graduation, in case you get fed up with the whole idea of becoming a doctor. On the other hand, you get the chance to study in a pretty big hospital, one of the best in the country, with first-class physicians.
I feel blessed (no pun intended) to have learned from some of these professionals.
No wonder this is the hospital where even the Pope goes when he gets ill. There's an entire apartment reserved for him on the tenth floor! It's not uncommon to bump into famous actors and athletes at the hospital as well.
