Yesterday, when I got on Skype, I saw one of my Japanese friends online. It was the first time I saw her name light up green, which shows the person is on, in a long while.
I remembered a funny story about her. She is a married woman, who is classic and sophisticated, but she had some problems with her husband at the time. Despite the hard situation, she was still trying to improve herself and seeking challenges.
One day, she started talking to me about English learning, and she seemed to have wanted a teacher who was a native speaker. I set her up with a Canadian teacher, and his one-on-one lesson started at once.
After a while, when I met her, she sounded like she was totally crazy about him. She said that she was too nervous to speak in his lessons because she felt like she was chatting with Brad Pitt! lolShe seemed to have been caught up in illusions of being with Brad Pitt during her lessons. I wondered if the Canadian teacher looked like him..
It is funny because most of the time when I introduce Japanese people to Westerners, Japanese people's character and attitudes turn out to be different. Some get to be too intimidated, and some get to be too aggressive.
Now, I try to look back on when I just started learning English. As I was not used to being with native speakers then, maybe I showed a different me in front of them.
I hope I was not too weird!
