DanGun – The father of Korea
About 4,400 years ago, there was a king in heaven. He had a son, Hwanung.
Hwanung always wanted to go to a beautiful land.
The king sent his son to the land
with three men.
Their names were
Cloud, Rain and Wind.
Hwanung went to the land
and the people welcomed him.
They were happy.
There was a bear and a tiger
that lived in a cave.
They wanted to be human.
Hwanung gave them garlic and herb to eat
and told them to stay in the cave for 100 days.
They ate only garlic and herb,
and prayed everyday.
The tiger doesn't like it and he left.
The bear cried but suffered for 100 days.
At last,
The bear became a woman.
Her name was Ungnyeo.
Hwanung and Ungnyeo got married.
They had a son after 9 months.
He was DanGun and he founded Gojoseon.
It was the birth of Korea.
Note that in the story, the word "herb" should probably be "herbs" (so that is how I read it). In the sentence that says, "The tiger doesn't like it..." the verb should be "didn't" instead of "doesn't" (so that is how I read it).
I am learning to speak Korean so I tried my best to say the names somewhat correctly. If the average English speaker were to read those names, they would have probably been much worse than me. :)
