When I went to see my friends in America, I learned that sometimes things don't always happen as planned. I had planned to board the plane 10 hours in advance, so I could make sure I got to the airport and through the security checkpoints on time. I had the whole day in front of me.
I had called a taxi and paid a little extra for a better car, so I could ride in comfort. But the driver made me wait, so he could finish sending his friend an SMS, and then would not obey the speed limit on the motorway and he crashed! Luckily I was not hurt. While he was getting his car towed away, he called a friend who he promised could take me the rest of the way, but his friend had stopped for lunch and still needed to fill up with petrol at the station!
I knew I would be waiting quite long, so I decided to take a bus, but the only bus that was not held up because it was rush hour and because of the traffic jam caused by the accident was not going near the airport! So I got off the bus at the stop that was closest to the airport and took a ferry across the river. Once I was across the river I found a train that was going to the airport.
The train arrived at the station, and I was glad to finally get there. But when I went to my terminal I had seen an enormous queue! While I waited, I asked a man why everyone was so mad, apparently my plane had arrived early, and they had booked too many people for the flight! So even though I had arrived early, it was possible I still wouldn't have gotten on my flight!!!
At the check in desk, I found out it had been too late! The plane was already filled up! But I discovered that most of the passengers were going to Helsinki, not America, so I had checked the flights and booked a day trip flight on a separate plane that would land there, so I could then meet up with the plane that was going to America. It was very complicated!
My flight to Helsinki was horrible. I had to sit in an aisle seat and could not look out the window. I was happy when the plane finally took off. It was a long flight but there was no turbulence and I got up to stretch my legs but it was still quite stressful since I did not know if I would make my connecting flight.
Arrival at Helsinki Airport was surprising. It was very clean and modern, but since I had to book two separate flights I had to check my luggage a separate time, and I had to go and find my suitcases at the baggage reclaim.
It was a lot of trouble, but I was grateful to finally arrive in America to see my friends. All of them come to pick me up and that made me happy. It was long journey and I was really tired, but so happy!
