The big night is over and the list is in. René Redzepi from Noma in Copenhagen is again at the top of the World's 50 Best Restaurants list for 2014, an event sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. The Roca brothers and their El Celler De Can Roca restaurant in Girona (Spain) dropped down at the second place, while Massimo Bottura from the Osteria Francescana restaurant in Italy is again at the third position.
It was a night enjoyed by some of the culinary profession's biggest players, the regulars who make the list every year and the face of a number of new entries or re-entries - Martín Berasategui and Azurmendi in Spain, Coi in the USA, The Test Kitchen in South Africa, De Librije in the Netherlands, Gaggan in Thailand, Waku Ghin in Singapore.
Restaurant Gaggan in Bangkok claimed the highest new entry, ranking 17, while estaurant Central in Lima, Peru, is the highest climber of 2014 at number 15 (last year was 50). Alex Atala and his D.O.M. restaurant is 2014 Chef's Choice, while One to watch award went to Saison in San Francisco, California. Jordi Roca awarded as 2014 World's Best Pastry Chef, while Azurmendi has been awarded with Sustainable restaurant award.
The USA and Spain came out as the countries with the most venues on the list, each with seven, closely followed by France with 5. All together there were 29 restaurants from Europe, 7 from Asia and USA, 6 from South America, 1 from Australia and 1 from South Africa.
