I must dash off; I'm already late.
He dashed off before I could talk to him.
Feel free to dash off an email to us at any time.
It dawned on me that something unusual was going on.
The truth finally dawned on him.
The strange noise finally died away.
The wind's died down at last.

May I suggest these alternate renderings? (Is this the correct use of the Comment?)

I must dash; I'm already late.

Feel free to send an email to us at any time.
Or, He dashed off an email to us.

The Panda is in danger of becoming extinct.
Or, This breed is dying out.

He spent the morning digging up the vegetable patch.
(never digging over)

1. I spent a month doing up the flat and I think it's quite nice now.
(Not used in Northwestern America - we us "fixing up")

If you can find another blanket I'll just doze down here on the sofa. (If the beds are upstairs. Otherwise, I'll just doze here... "Dozing" is a brief nap. Not usually used as "I'll will doze..." More likely used to describe what someone has done.)

That is all in the past. Why are you bringing it all up now?
