Hey everyone, how are you? It's Sil, and guess what? I just moved into my new apartment here in Hanoi today. So, yeah, things are a bit messy. I haven't had time to organize anything; I just threw stuff around. So don't mind the mess.

If you're watching this and you're wondering how much 350 dollars US -- or what 350 dollars US gets you for an apartment in Hanoi, this will give you a little bit of an idea.

Now, I don't know if I got a great deal or a bad deal or an okay deal, but I -- you know -- when I was looking on the internet, there weren't a lot of places that looked much better for the same price, so I chose this. Anyway, this will give you a little idea.

Now, you know, maybe I overpaid, maybe I didn't, I don't know, but, you know, websites that advertise in English, usually they'll charge more because they're targeting expats and expats come here with, you know, company packages that pay for everything, so they usually have more money. I'm traveling on a budget. But, even so, I need, you know, somebody who speaks English to rent a place to me. So I had to go through those channels, and I imagine I probably paid a little bit more than a local might have, I don't know.

A local would also know, you know, what else is around, too. They’d be able to look around more thoroughly than I could. So I probably paid a little bit more than, you know, than a local might have for that. And the other thing, too, is that I’m only here — I’ve only rented for a month. I don’t know if I’ll stay a little longer or not, but I started with one month, and usually short-term rentals are also more expensive, you know. If I was long-term, I might get it for a bit cheaper.

So, but, if you want to come for a month, this is what 350 dollars gets you. So let’s have a look at the apartment. Let me turn the phone around here.

And this is the kitchen, here. We have, of course, you know, a little table with a couple of chairs. We have another little table here to put stuff on while you’re cooking I guess. A dish rack, a little sink. Here we have a little stove and one burner, so I won’t be making any complex dishes. Under here there’s the gas tank. I’m going to have to learn how to refill that, I guess. Here, under here, you can’t see very well because it’s dark, but there’s a frying pan and a pot. It doesn’t come with a lot, you know. It would have been nice, had there been a kettle, for example, or maybe a toaster or a toaster oven. But anyway, this is what I got. Here we have a few dishes, you know. A couple of plates, a couple of glasses, a couple of cups, a couple of forks, a flipper and a ladle. No knife. Uh, also a cutting board. No knife. So I have to go buy a knife so that I can cut stuff with. But, you know, even if I spend 30 or 40 or 50 dollars on a few utensils, it’s still going to be a lot cheaper than if I stayed in a hotel.

And a lot more comfortable, you know. This is a place that I can call my home. I don’t have to deal with, you know, eating out three times a day. I can cook here, I can save money by buying food in bulk, et cetera. Here, we got a little fridge. Big enough for short-term, anyway. Big enough for one person, that’s for sure. The TV, it’s an old TV, there’s no HTMI. It would have been nice, ‘cause, you know, it would’ve been nice to have a bigger screen to plug my computer into and watch videos and movies, but anyway. I’ll live. Here we’ve got a fan to circulate the air. Which is not, you know, doing not bad of a job — doing a not-bad job — not doing a bad job. Ha, yeah, I teach English, believe it or not. It’s not doing a bad job, you know, without the air conditioning. Right now it’s not that hot, in October, so, it’s — it seems to be adequate.

We have here a water dispenser. I haven’t had time to buy a big tank of water yet. Here we’ve got a little, you know, coffee table and a sofa. And going to the bathroom. Here’s a little shoebox, I guess. Here’s the bathroom. Quite large, very big. Got a sink, got a toilet. One thing, I was surprised, there is no hand-sprayer, which a lot of places in Vietnam do have. But there’s no hand-sprayer here. And this is the shower. [?] quite a large shower, and I tested the water pressure, it seems to be pretty good, so, overall, not too bad. I don’t need a bathroom this big, but it’s nice — I guess it’s better too big than too small.

And going over here we have the — oh wait I forgot to show you in the kitchen. There’s cupboard space up here as well. Yeah, so, lots of cupboard space. Oh no, I did show you that. Okay, let’s go back here. Haha, okay. Here we’ve got the bedroom. Got a bed. I don’t know if that’s a double or a queen but it’s pretty big. Lots of room to stretch out. And there’s a little closet / wardrobe-type of cabinet thing. Little nightstand over in the corner and a nightstand here right beside the bed. And then, moving around, we’ve got a little desk to work on. So if you like to work, this is the desk. There’s WiFi.

If you’re wondering about WiFi, WiFi is included free. We’ve got running water, which is included free. That — of course the drinking water is not, but the tap water is. Free cable/internet. Sorry, sorry — free cable, TV cable. So, free internet, free TV cable, free running water, and it includes twice a week cleaning service, including laundry. So for 350 dollars US, this is what I got. Again, I don’t know if I overpaid or if I got a great price, I really don’t know. But it’ll give you some sort of idea of what you can expect when you come here.

And that is my tour. I — like I said, I just got here today, so I haven’t really had a chance to discover everything around yet. The location, I think, is pretty good. It’s kind of between Hoan Kiem Lake and West Lake, kind of almost in the middle of the two, so I can walk to either place, which are both quite popular. And I think it would take me about — let me turn the camera around here — take me, I don’t know, fifteen minutes. I think, by the Google maps, it says fifteen or twenty minutes, I’m not sure. So, so that’s the place. Yeah. If you have any questions, like I said I haven’t had a chance to really, you know, turn over all of the stones yet, but go ahead, ask me questions in the comments section, and I will do my best to answer. And that is a little view of a 350 dollar apartment in Hanoi. Cheers. Cheers. Bye. How do I turn this off? I can’t see the button. How do I turn this off?

All the punctuation is guesses; I tried to convey what I heard him doing, but it's an art, not a science XD
