Is everybody on Instagram?
Yeah.
In the world of Instagram, as these high school students know well, users post a photo and then everyone can see how many people like that post.
Are you looking to see whether people like it?
You're worried about that?
Well that's the premise of Instagram.
When we spoke a couple years ago, Liam shared that he used to spend money to get more likes.
I remember like back in like fifth grade I would like buy them to make myself look popular.
And it was horrible! It was horrible..
But now Instagram is testing a new system world-wide, a small percentage of users will no longer be able to see the number of likes on anyone's post, except their own.
The big idea is to try and make Instagram feel less pressurized, so you can spend a little bit less time worrying about how many likes you have, and a little bit more time connecting with people or things that inspire you.
Reaction today, mixed.
Them taking off the likes, is, I think it's gonna be a good solution.
If you take away the likes, it's kind of like what's the point of using it?
Instagram has heard concerns from influencers who depend on likes to build their brand, but its CEO has been clear.
We will make decisions that hurt the business if they're good for peoples' well being and health.
A message a lot of parents will like.
