The former Prime Minister, Mr. Wentworth Lane, was defeated in the recent elections. He is now retiring from political life and has gone abroad. My friend, Patrick, has always been a fanatical opponent of Mr. Lane's Radical Progressive Party. After the elections, Patrick went to the former Prime Minister's house. When he asked if Mr. Lane lived there, the policeman on duty told him that since his defeat, the ex-Prime Minister had gone abroad. On the following day, Patrick went to the house again. The same policeman was just walking slowly past the entrance, when Patrick asked the same question. Though a little suspicious this time, the policeman gave him the same answer. The day after, Patrick went to the house once more and asked exactly the same question. This time, the policeman lost his temper. 'I told you yesterday and the day before yesterday,' he shouted, 'Mr. Lane was defeated in the elections. He has retired from political life and gone to live abroad!"
'I know,' answered Patrick, 'but I love to hear you say it!'

When I become a college senior, I started my job hunting. At that time I was hesitating over whether I should be a designer or not.
This was because what I had learned at the college was mainly design theories, not practical design methods. In addition, I didn't have my portfolio, or, more precisely, I couldn't even make it.
Most design aspirants go on to art schools, where they learn practical methods.
They are required to create something tangible or practical in assignments and projects given them in their courses.
On the other hand I had few assignments to make something concrete because my college was specialized in design theories. Therefore, it was very difficult for me to prepare my portfolio. At that time I thought that many of the designers in Japan gave first priority to the aesthetic expressive skills, not to the way of thinking, and that being a designer is required to make something beautiful. If I had had the good aesthetic expressive skills, I could have had a confidence to be a designer. As it was, I needed to rethink that. People around recommended me to choose jobs in which I could make good use of the way of design thinking.
I myself thought that there was no reason why I had to be a designer just because I had learned design for only 4 years in the collage. However, my curiosity made me want to be a designer. As it was no use hesitating before I tried, I decided to go to Tokyo to have an interview with the company which was recruiting some designers.

The plane which I took lifted from Beijign Shoudu Airport at 10:50 am China time,and it landed on the Seoul Gimpo airport runaway at 2:05 pm Seoul time.
I watched a French film while the plane was flying.
I ate beef with vegetables for a plane lunch, and it was a bit greasy.
The airplane lunch was a beef with vegetables, and it was a little greasy.
But A hot-pepper that stewardess gave us sauce in a tube, alleviate ?/reudce? / greasy.
I took some pictures with my phone through the small plane window, while the plane was flying in the sky.
I feel I will not be flying much for a while, even though my mileage points are over 15000.
By the way, my son came to the airport to pick up us.
I stopped by school on the way home, in order to take list of children who wanted to join a Chinese hobby class during winter vocation.
Betty and jjang-Ah welcomed us with a purple passion?/ enthusiastic ?! at the front door.

• But he didn`t know the area well, so he called and asked teacher how to go her house with his cell-phone.
• My teacher drove her car to a restaurant in a suburb of Beijing.
• The restaurant is not very large, but the atmosphere is a sort of classic Chinese. It`s very good.
• I ate happily.
• I`m so sleepy, because I ate too much for dinner today.
• So I would go to bed, I can`t stand anymore. Bye~Good night!

An American chef called George ‘Speck” Crum is considered the inventor of the potato crisp.
It all started on August 24th 1853, when he worked in a restaurant in Saratoga Springs, New York, U.S.A. One of his customers sent his Friech fries back to the kitchen because he didn’t like them. Apparently, they were too thick for his taste. So Crum tried to prepare the perfect French fries. He made some more fries, but the man again sent these potatoes back to the kitchen for the same reason. This time Crum got angry. He hoped to annoy the guest and made a third portion. These potatoes were thinner and crispier than the others, so that the guest couldn’t eat them with a fork. Apart from that, the furious chef put a lof of salt. To Crum’s surprise, the customer wasn’t annoyed at all: he simply loved the potatoes!
Later, Crum opened his own crisps restaurant. Foolishly, he didn’t patent his invention.
‘Lays’ is one of the most popular brands of potato chips. it is the first brand of chips as well.
Herman Lay, a travelling salesman, made this first brand with a successful national marketing in 1920. At the beginning he sold his chips ‘Lays’ from the trunk of his car. The business was successful and it helped popularize the dish in the south of the USA.
Now Americans consume more chips than any nation in the world. Paradoxically, in colonial times Americans disapproved of potatoes and used them only as food for pigs. They thought that potatoes contained an aphrodisiac which provoked the demon of sex and led to the fall of man.
A TIP: the Americans call them chips, the British call them crisps.

When I was a high school student, I was good at mathematics and physics.
Somehow I was terrible with chemistry. At the beginning of high school, if I do say so myself, I was always one of the top ten students; I was what is called a banner student.Unfortunately, as is often the case with teenagers, I got hooked on music, getting deeper and deeper into a band. The more I practiced the guitar, the worse grades I got.
In the second half of high school, my academic performance was too low to go on to any of the colleges of my choice.I gave up on taking the entrance exams early and decided to attend a prep school in Fukuoka. At the beginning of prep school, I had to choose which colleges I wanted to try to get in to. However, there was a problem. As I mentioned, while I am good at mathematics and physics, I am terrible at English. Since almost all the colleges require applicants to take an English test, it was difficult to look for colleges, which I would qualify. One day, I found a college that would meet my needs and happened to be in my neighborhood. Therefore, I checked it out and found that the school had an unique department called Science and Arts.
Prompted by curiosity,Ｉchose the college and went on to it after all.
It may surprise you to hear that I got interested in design only after I entered the college.
