1 - Ask (Someone/Somebody) Over:
Meaning: Invite the person to your house or apartment:
Ex: She is going to ask us over for lunch in her house.
2 - Ask (Someone/Somebody) Out:
Meaning: Invite the person to go out for a romantic encounter:
Ex: Jack asked me out to the cinema on Friday.
3 - Come Over
Meaning: Someone/somebody that arrives at your house or apartment:
Ex: Come over to my place and we’ll discuss it.
4 - Bring Over
Meaning: Bring an object/person to other person’s house or apartment:
Ex: He’s bringing his new girlfriend over to our house tonight.
5 - Have (Someone/Somebody) Over
Meaning: It is the general word for having people visit your house/apartment:
Ex: We’re having about 20 people over for Thanksgiving dinner.
6 - Pop In / Stop In / Stop By
These phrasal verbs mean to enter a place for a short period of time:
Ex: I just stopped by to say hi – I need to go in about ten minutes.
Ex: He popped in for two minutes.
Ex: The next time you're nearby, stop in for dinner.
7 - Drop In
Meaning: To visit unexpectedly:
Ex: My sister always drops in while I’m in the middle of doing something important. I wish she’d call me before she came over.
8- Drop (Someone/Somebody) Off
Meaning: When you take somebody in your car and then leave them in another place:
Ex: I drop my wife off at work every morning.
9- Pick (Someone/Somebody) Up
Meaning: It is the opposite of drop off.
Ex: My wife returns from London on Thursday – I’ll pick her up from the airport around 12:30.
10- Meet Up With (Someone/Somebody)
Meaning: To get together at a particular time and place:
Ex: I’m going to meet up with some friends at the pub at 8:30.
