Could you please speak a bit more slowly than you normally would?
If you have a British accent, that would be fantastic ;-)
Hello, my name is John and I want to tell you something about Lions Clubs and especially about my Lions Club.
Lions started in America in 1917 when a group of businessmen decided to help the poorest people living in their town. From there, it spread around the world, reaching Europe in 1948 and England in 1949. My club was formed in 1974. I was invited to join 5 years later.
All of us, all members, enjoy helping other people. We give up our own time, our money and our efforts to do so.
We raise money in several ways. At Christmas, we collect money outside the local supermarket, and we have a decorated vehicle which goes around the town, knocking on the doors, wishing everybody a happy Christmas and people give us money. The children love it because Father Christmas is always on this float and they love to see him. We also have sponsored sporting events like a 10-kilometer run and a semi-marathon.
We especially look after families who find life difficult because they don’t have a lot of money. We take the families on holidays; we give them some money for food at Christmas.
The other group of people that we always help are old and handicapped people because they are the most vulnerable. We take them to shows and we cook them a Christmas dinner.
