He was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon and died in 1616 at the age of 52.
Shakespeare was the third child of John Shakespeare, a glove maker, and Mary Arden, a farmer’s daughter. At the age of 18 he married Anne Hathaway, and they had three children: a daughter, Susanna, who was born six months after they were married and twins: Hamnett and Judith. Unfortunately, Hamnett died at the age of eleven.

In the 1580s, Shakespeare moved to London and began working in a theater as an actor and playwright. He became a member of the Lord Chamberlain's men, a company of actors that was very popular.
He wrote a total of 38 plays, including tragedies, like Romeo and Juliet, comedies, including A Midsummer Night's Dream, and historic plays such as Richard the third. They were performed at the Globe Theater.
He also wrote about 154 poems called sonnets, his most famous poem being sonnet 18.
Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language.
