Note to recorder:

prefer british accent. thank you!

The women on the 6th Floor is a French film, set in Paris in 1962. The women in question are Spanish maids, working for middle-class French families, when Frenco is still in power in Spain and de Gaulle still rules France. The traditional values of both cultures remain strong, even among the Spanish refugees coming to France. The maids are devoutly Catholic, rather more so than the French people they serve. They are less educated, more earthy, more "communal". They are Spanish people as the French generally perceive them.

Maria arrives on a bus to find a job. She will stay with her aunt, the mother figure of the group. Maria is in her late 20s, younger then most of other maids. She is pretty and shy, but they make her welcome.
Theire toilets are blocked and there is no hot water in this part of the building, but they make do.

Peter and I (EminTX) have accents that are not very dissimilar, but there are some differences. I am from Texas where the words "aunt" and "ant" sound exactly the same. The name "Maria" is also said differently by many down here because of the significant Latino population's influence. Sorry that I can't provide you with a British version but hopefully having another recording can clarify difficult sounds.

I live in Texas but for the most part didn't grow up here. =) My accent is probably most influenced by living in California as a child.

I remember the first time I ever heard "aunt" sounding like "ont". I was 13 or 14 and a new girl had just moved to Texas from Minnesota.
I honestly can't remember ever hearing the word being used on TV--I suppose that aunts aren't a popular topic in the media.
Peter, you definitely sound like you are from out West. :)
