Kiki - I noticed something about one of the lines you requested to have spoken. I'm not sure if it is important, but I thought I'd mention it anyway:

In correct English, the sentence "Please open door slowly" should be "Please open the door slowly."

If you don't understand why, I can explain it if you would like.

Although sometimes they leave out the "the" in stuff like instructions and announcements. For instance, a bottle of medicine might say on the top, "Press cap down and turn" rather than "Press the cap down and turn it." So I would expect that sort of excessive brevity out of something written on a bus door.

Wow! Thanks so much for the helpful explanations, JustDerek and anniekate76 :D

Actually I saw it written on the lavatory door in an airplane. And yes, I was wondering why the "the" was left out.

But I think I got it now.
Probably, they need that sort of expression because of space limitations, and in order to emphasize an important point. In other words, "the" is nothing but a function word and is not so necessary in those cases.

Thanks again for your help.
Sent you two friend invites. ^^

Kiki, I noticed that some of your Audio Requests have years in them. A few years ago I wrote a post on my language blog that explores the different ways to read years in English. It has many user comments that provide additional insight. I think you'll enjoy reading it:

Overview

You can use our built-in RhinoRecorder to record from within your browser, or you may also use the form to upload an audio file for this Audio Request.

Don't have audio recording software? We recommend Audacity. It's free and easy to use.
