數學教育理念之戰
究竟要沿襲傳統或改革數學？兩方又開始激烈爭辯。
在過去20年來，教育界為了怎樣才能把孩子的數學教好，一直爭論不休。倡導傳統數學的人標榜演算法的練習，還有以教師為中心的學習，但改革數學的擁護者則認為應把重心放在基礎概念與學生的發問上面。美國在面對學生數學程度持續下降的同時，這些所謂的「數學戰爭」則以散發請願書、公佈具爭議的課程指導方針等方式激烈展開，其中一個例子甚至牽涉到訴訟。但遭到池魚之殃的，是美國中學生每天完成數學作業的能力，以及在國際經濟環境中的競爭力。
