Could you please help me with understanding the sentence: "A slippery torque converter masks the power deficit until you hit an on-ramp."
Does slippery mean "unreliable"? Or it's just normal characteristic of a torque converter?
And what does "hit an on-ramp" mean? Does it mean that the power deficit becomes obvious when the car goes up a steep slope?

"transmission slip" is a technical term for a car engine issue. It can be used in the sentence "Oh my transmission is slipping"
A "slippery torque converter" is a torque converter that has the transmission slip issue.
"masks the power defecit", here the word "masks" means "covers up" or "hides"
"hit an on-ramp" means the driving car encounters (hits) an "on-ramp". An "on-ramp" is a sloped highway entrance.
