Malala Yousafzai was born in 1997 in Pakistan. When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Northern Pakistan, Malala spoke out and fought for her right to an education. On October 9th, 2012, when she was fifteen, she was shot in the head as she was coming back from school. She was taken to hospital and was operated on in Birmingham, England. In 2013, when she was sixteen, she delivered a speech at the United Nations Headquarters. She now defends the right of girls to go to school. She is a supporter of female education. That’s why she has become a symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. She now studies at Oxford, one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
