Hello, this is meant to be part of a dialogue between two women, so natural speed would be nice ( and female voices would be preferred : ) ) , and if you could "act" it a little, my pupils would love it!
Could you please read the letters of the answers for the quiz ( a, b, c). Thanks a lot!
“Mmmm? A quiz? Let me have a look! “What is your shopper’s profile?” Ok, I’ll do it.”
“Ermmm, well, I’d say, b: I quite like shopping. I’m a not a shopaholic like you are!”
“Yes, you are, Lucy! Question N° 2 is for you! Would you be able to spend two months without shopping?
A: Yes, without any problems!
B: Yes, but I would miss it.
C: Maybe I could spend two weeks without shopping but not a month.
D: No, I couldn’t.
You must choose the last answer! Be honest, Lucy!”
“You bet! Question N° 3: Have you ever bought something you didn’t really need?
a) Maybe once, a long time ago.
b) Yes, more than once, but that’s fine, you give these items away.
c) Yes, you have, many times, because you can’t resist buying things.
Oh, actually, I’ve bought something I didn’t need once, a nice pair of leather trousers, they were beautiful, but I can’t stand wearing them! They’ve been in my closet for ages!”
“Yes, I know… Let’s carry on! Question 4: How often do you go shopping?
A: Twice a month
B: Once a month
C: Every week
D: Several times a week?”
“See? You’re a shopaholic!”
“Well, you should try to be reasonable!”
“Yes, I do, so I would choose answer B: cosmetics.”
Could you clarify on this a bit? I'm having trouble following. For example:
“ I’m A not a shopaholic like you are!”
I'm assuming that should say "I'm not a shopaholic like you are!"
Also, when she says:
You must choose the last answer! Be honest, Lucy!”
Does she mean that she knows that Lucy's answer should be D, because they're friends, and she knows her well?
If so, this might be better expressed in this way:
Oh, that last one is YOU! Be honest!
However, if she honestly meant that Lucy should choose her answer honestly, then she shouldn't be telling her to choose the last one. She should just say "You have to answer the questions honestly".
The next issue I saw: "You bet!"
The response: “You bet!" just doesn't seem natural. "You bet" is normally used in reply to a yes or no question ("Will I see you tonight?" "You bet!" It's a bit like saying "Absolutely!"
However, in the passage above, I would instead expect to see "yep" or "you know me SO well!" instead of "you bet".
