James Brown was the master of soul and funk music. He had an amazing voice and his music was energetic and funky. His nickname was: “The Godfather of Soul”. He was also a very good dancer. He was born in 1956 in the USA and he died in 2006. His most famous hits were “I feel good”, “Get up” or “This is a man’s world”. He received 9 Grammy Awards. His music influenced artists in the 20th century.
Queen was probably the most famous British rock band in the 1970s and 1980s. They sold more than 300 million albums. Queen was elected “the best British rock band of all times”, before The Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The leader of the band was Freddie Mercury. He died in 1991. Their most famous songs are “We will rock you”, or “The show must go on”. The band played a mix of pop, blues and hard rock.
Ella Fitzgerald was a black American jazz singer. She was born in 1917 and she died in 1996. She played the piano and she also had an amazing voice. She was nicknamed “The First Lady of Swing”. She was awarded 13 Grammy Awards. Some of her most famous hits are “Mack the Knife”, “Summertime” or “It don’t mean a thing”. She was a master at scatting (=improvisation).
