Note to recorder:

I wrote an informative speech for my public speaking class. If there are mistakes you can correct I will appreciate it.

What a wonderful morning! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, I woke up early this morning, and I’m completely awake without a cup of coffee. This is truly a miracle. Mornings are so peaceful. Ha, what a beautiful lie. Usually our mornings are so stressful. Everyone rushes around the house, has a moody face, someone is already late. Such a chaos, and that’s all because we prefer to sleep in. I bet you sleep till the lunch time and be happier than right now.
Well, maybe. But several studies have correlated waking up early with success. What’s more, research shows that early risers tend to be happier and more proactive. Every one of us wants to be successful and happy. And if this is something that can help me in my journey of improvement, then why not to try it, to wake up early? And I’ve tried. Maybe my life hasn’t changed very much, I feel happier and more peaceful.
So, waking up early in the morning has a positive impact, that’s why it is an important habit to be developed.
First I’m going to talk about the benefits of waking up early in the morning, and then how to develop this good habit.
Waking up early has several benefits.
First of all, waking up early enhances your productivity. Some of the most successful people in the world are early risers. It’s simple, if you wake up early, you get more done. In 2010, Christoph Randler, a biologist from Harvard University found that early risers are more proactive. They are also better at making decisions, planning and setting goals. Another research conducted by Texas University found that students who woke up early each day actually scored better test scores, in comparison to those who slept in all the time.
Waking up early gives you more free time. The early bird schedule is good for finding time for exercise. Waking up early has been known to reduce the chances of missed workouts. Of course there is nothing wrong with exercising after work. However, by exercising first thing in the morning, you are not going to let a tiring work day or social plans after work get in the way of your workout. Moreover, if you wake up early, you have more free time in the evening. And you can spend it with your friends or family. As for me, I prefer reading books in the morning because it’s “quite time”. Also it is distraction-free and it’s a great time to make important decisions as I am the most focused.
Now when we know that waking up has a positive impact, let’s turn to how to develop the habit of waking up early.
There are simple rules that help you to wake up early.
And the first one is don’t snooze. If you use the snooze button when you wake up, you should stop. When you use the snooze button to continually stop and start your sleep cycle, you are fragmenting your circadian rhythms. Jeff Howe in his article at Psychology Today writes, “Our bodies, in other words, note the time we hope to begin our day and gradually prepare us for consciousness.” All the hormones that help you fall asleep meddle with the hormones that help you wake up. Your body gets confused. And with each slap of the snooze, it gets worse. The snooze is the worst way to start your day.
The next thing to do is to get bright light first thing in the morning. Morning sunlight encourages “dim-light melatonin onset,” which has offers anti-depression benefits. Although the bright lights of your laptop or TV before bed can make it hard to go to sleep, bright light for an hour or two once you wake up can help set your body clock to accept your wake up time.
To sum up, waking up early has benefits that make you more proactive and happier. You have more free time, and you have more things done. Waking up early allows to start the day in a very relaxed and intentional way. There is no magic for waking up early, you can easily do it. And here what I think: If everyone else is sleeping in and hitting the snooze button, and you are already awake, you are a head of a game. So make sure when you wake up in the morning, tackle it with enthusiasm and happiness, and you can do anything you put your mind to. And remember: every morning you have two choices: continue to sleep with your dreams, or wake up and chase them.
