I’m gonna talk about genetic engineering which is an idea of progress in the science. The medicine made some progress especially in genetic. Genetic engineering is one of progress; it’s a manipulation of genes which is controlled and deliberated. It is a scientific breakthrough but it has however limits.
We may wonder to what extent genetic engineering is considered as a progress or a peril.
First of all, we will speak advantages of the genetic engineering, after these consequences and to finish, these risks.

First of all, genetic engineering is a progress. This advance allows saving people who suffer from disease. For example, in the article “Family use genetic selection to have a baby to save their other child life’s”, the parents use the umbilical cord of this baby, Michael, to save his sister, Elisabeth. Without that she would have died.
And in the movie “Gattaca”, genetic engineering is used to choose their future baby’s characteristics: colour of eyes, colour of hair. But also, if in the family there is a genetic disease, genetic manipulation is used to eradicate this gene at the baby. Even if genetic engineering has many advantages, in some cases it can however be a real danger.

This progress can be used to save people but there may have consequences. Genetic engineering is chosen by families to create designer babies. For example, Anna, in the movie “My sister’s keeper”, she is created to save her sister who suffers from leukemia. But in eleven years, Anna had eight hospitalizations. She is created just for her organs and her blood. We can wonder if the parents who resort to genetic engineering to have a child, make him by envy or just to save their other child. Also, if they really love this child.

To finish, this advance has limits, it can be a risks. It can be to use by people having of bad intentions. We can take the example of the cartoon “Clones R Us”. In this cartoon, genetic engineering is uses by a factory for created clone; “perfecting” men for them. They keep muscular and tall men with black hair and reject the others. It is a selective genetic. Here, the cartoonist denounces the idea of perfecting society. He shows the dehumanizing world.

To conclude, according to how and why genetic engineering is used, it can be a progress because saves people and prevent disease. But this advance can put in danger the life of somebody. Children can be creating just for save another people. And, genetic manipulation can be used to create a world of monster and a clone. He can dehumanize the world.
