Toni Morrison is one of the most celebrated authors in the world. As the first African-American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, her work has inspired a generation of writers to follow in her footsteps.
She was born in 1931 in Ohio. Her birthname was Chloe Anthony Wofford. Although she grew up in a semi-integrated area, racial discrimination was a constant threat.
She published her first novel The Bluest Eye when she was 39 years old. In 1987, she published her novel called Beloved based on a True story. In 1993, she won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
