Some people say that classical music is gradually disappearing. I’m not sure. I don’t listen to classical music but I sometimes hear some in commercials on TV. For example, Hyundai, the Korean car company, is using “Sonata” for a model name. And they use a slow movement from one of Mozart’s Piano Sonatas in their ad! And Hyundai isn’t alone: Audi uses Ravel’s music. Do you think car ads are going to save classical music?
Actually, my favourite type of music is rock & roll. I love listening to Led Zeppelin or The Rolling Stones. I find it dynamic and it makes me want to dance. I often go to rock concerts but I never go to classical music concerts. They’re boring I think... people just listen, they don’t move, and they don’t dance of course...
I don’t know why advertisers use classical music… Perhaps it’s relaxing. Perhaps it’s just easy to adapt it to a short video… or perhaps they don’t pay for it. They also use a lot of folk music now. It promotes young music bands and young singers. And that’s good.
