A Beginner's Guide to Learning French: Conclusion

I've suggested that when you first start learning French, it's best - if possible - to start learning the basics of it in your native language. But, once you've passed beyond that initial stage, how things then proceed will depend on your own efforts. In order to keep up your motivation, it's vital to have some actual contact with French people. So pursue opportunities for cultural exchange!

Memorization is essential - not just for learning French, but also for learning other languages as well. Verbs, nouns, adjectives - all in all there's a seemingly endless number of them that need to be learnt. If you don't find a way to enjoy this, you won't be able to continue. Find something you have an interest in, and work out a way to enjoy studying it. When it comes to learning a foreign language, the number of people who lose confidence is considerable. There will be times when - even if you ask - you won't be able understand what's being said. Not being able to express yourself well is frustrating, and then to top it off, people make fun of you because of that. At such times, it's the fun you have which will give you the power to stay the course without losing your confidence.
So, as much as possible revel in learning French, and as much as possible acknowledge your own achievements.
