Once upon a time, there lived a brave pirate named Pirate Pete. Pirate Pete was a bold sailor with a wooden leg, a hat called a tricorn atop his head, and an eyepatch covering one eye. Perched on his shoulder was his colorful parrot, squawking and chirping with every move. At his waist, Pete carried two gleaming swords, ready for any adventure that came his way on the open seas.
Pirate Pete loved to explore the sea on his ship called The Sea Serpent's Fortune. One day, he found a map to an island shaped like a skull.
With his spyglass, Pete saw a shiny treasure on the island. He and his crew sailed there in excitement. On the island, they found a big chest full of gold and jewels, making their eyes widen with joy.
Suddenly, the ground shook! The island started to break apart. The pirates ran back to their ship, getting on just in time.
They were sad because they lost the treasure, but they knew that having adventures together was the best thing ever. Their friendship was more valuable than any treasure.
With hopeful hearts, they looked forward to their next journey on the open seas, knowing that whatever challenges they faced, they would face them together as true friends.

Most people think of Maui as a paradise because of its beautiful beaches and terrific weather. But for us, Maui was an island of wonderfully kind people living in a
paradise of zero racism.

Kung Fu Panda 4 ” stayed at the top of the North American box office in its second weekend in theaters. The Universal and DreamWorks Animation movie earned $30 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The franchise featuring the voice of Jack Black is responsible for over $1.9 billion at the box office since it launched in 2008 and spawned several animated series, shorts, video games and a holiday special. The fourth installment, playing in 4,067 locations in North America, has already made $107.7 million domestically.

There were several new movies arriving in over 1,000 theaters (or expanding) this weekend, including Lionsgate’s Mark Wahlberg dog movie “ Arthur the King,” Focus Features’ comedic satire “The American Society of Magical Negroes” and A24’s Kristen Stewart-led bodybuilding thriller “ Love Lies Bleeding.”

But the charts still belonged to the franchises, including “ Dune: Part Two,” which came in a very close second in its third weekend, with $29.1 million. That's down only 37% from last weekend. It’s now made $205.3 million domestically. The first film, which was released simultaneously in theaters and on streaming, capped out at around $435 million globally, while “Part Two” is already at almost $500 million worldwide.

All across the United States, from the end of the nineteenth century to the nineteen sixties', black people and white people were segregated.

Their homes, schools, churches and social lives were completely separated from one another.

In the Southern United States segregation was actually the law:

- Throughout the South Black people were not allowed in the same restaurants as White people.

- Black men and women taking the bus to work had to sit in the back, white people sat in the front.

- Even before they started school, black children learnt that they had to use colored drinking fountains and weren't allowed to use white bathrooms and gas stations.

- Black teens could not swim in public swimming-pools or at public beaches reserved for Whites.

- Even in old age, segregation separated senior citizens. The law made it a crime for an old black man and an old white man to play checkers together in the park.

This is a life-size sculpture made of synthetic resin.
Duane Hanson added human hair, dressed the model in real clothes, and gave it real bags to carry.

The artist portrays ordinary Americans. He chose to sculpt average citizens, working-class or middle-class people such as tourists or shoppers. He wanted to portray real America.

People are frozen in their activities. The sculpture is so realistic that the woman can be mistaken for a living person!

The artist wants to show the effects which the consumer society and lifestyle have on people.
When describing this sculpture, Duane Hanson said : "I like the physical burden this woman carries. She is weighed down by all her shopping bags and purchases, and she has almost become a bag herself! She carries physical burdens; the burdens of life, of everyday living!"

With her sad eyes and worn clothes, this woman looks lonely, isolated, and resigned.

- Every morning I get up at 7:45 .
- First I have a shower.
- Then I get dressed
- ...and I have breakfast. I usually have milk and cereals.
- I brush my teeth and I'm ready to go to school!
- I usually leave at 8:30, I meet my friends and we walk to school together.
- We finish school at 3:00 pm. I go back home...
- and I arrive at 3:30.
- Sometimes I tidy my room or I phone my friends. I sometimes watch TV or I play video games with my brother.
- We usually have dinner at 6:00 in the evening.
- Then I do my homework.
- Finally I go to bed around 9:00pm. It's not too late, I don't like going to bed too late...

I was happy to read your letter. Everything is going well now, but I was really busy with my studies at my school. I got a lot of projects to work on, did a lot of homework, and took different tests for a week. I was so happy with my test results because I received high marks on all of them. It could be because I changed the way I studied. I chose to work in groups and got practice every day.

Last week, my mother bought me a new bike as a reward. She was so pleased with my test results. That was the most I could do to make her happy. I hope to get all As in my upcoming exams. Do you want to discuss how to study for exams in our next letters?

Hi San,

How’s everything? I remember the last time we wrote to each other was last July. I finished my final examination a week ago and now I have the time to write to you. You know! I was so happy with the results. I passed all the tests. I even got an A in math, my favorite subject. But Spanish, history, and science grades were not that high. My mom looked a bit disappointed. But my dad wasn’t upset about my grades in those subjects. He even said I did a good job. But I did not feel the same way as my parents. I told myself I needed to try more in my next tests to make them pleased.
